Group Show

My art studio collective is having a group show this coming weekend.  I'm totally not prepared for it, and really don't have a lot of new material this year, AND I have to work that night, but it'll be a great show anyways because my collective is composed of really talented people.

This Saturday

Vanessa X of the zine Asswipe asked me to participate in this a while ago, unfortunatly though, I don't think I'll be able to make it in person since I don't think I can get the night off from my shitty, shitty job.  Either way though, I'm grateful I was asked to do this and I'm sure it will be a super fun time.

Just Finished

This poster for the East Bay Alternative Book and Zine Fest,  I hope they like it.  It's interesting, last year I was too late to sign up as a tabler and was actually super depressed about it.  Like, here I am, a bay area resident who is on my 22nd issue, but I'm unable to participate in this event for people like me.  Granted, I could have just set up outside like a lot of other people did, but whatevz.  Anyways, and now here I am one year later, and out of the blue I get an email asking me to illustrate the poster!

Someone wrote this on Reddit

'Dreams of Donuts' by Heather Wreckage.
An intimate perspective at the life and times of Bay Area punk babe Heather Wreckage. Quirky, funny, and surprisingly informative. Dreams of Donuts does an awesome job at presenting really vulnerable parts of this persons life in a format that is difficult to not relate to. The effects of which cause the reader (at least myself) to reevaluate their(my) own vulnerabilities and insecurities. Which is refreshing and hopefully good.
Among the funny and sobering occurrences of her day to day life, she also writes about cool D.I.Y resources, alternative dwellings, places to see secret shows, and other interesting shit. I couldn't recommend Dreams of Donuts anymore (I could but I don't want to). It's a great comic. It's changed my life, not much, but for the better.
You can pick up a copy if you happen to be in the San Francisco Bay Area at some local record/book stores (Thrillhouse preferably), but aside from that you can also order them here http://heatherwreckage.blogspot.com/ I recommend ordering the anthology which is the first 10 issues for 5$ (it comes with a cool handmade hardcover!).
Happy readings or whatever.

I don't know who wrote this, but it's hecka sweet.  I don't usually meet or recieve feedback from my readers, so when I find something like this it really makes me want to keep going.

Show Flyer

I recently got back from the Portland Zine Symposium (I wasn't really feeling it this year, not sure if I want to go next year) curtosy of Moira Scar, and wanted this flyer to be really sick as a thank you for the lift, but then I got SICK.  Like, for real sick, I was in the ER for a few days on hella meds and they didn't know what was wrong with me and it was the fucking WORST.  After some straight up malpractice material went down, I escaped that hospital via Mikey and Nick from Healers and went to a different one, where I was quickly diagnosed with the Mumps and sent home.  So this was drawn from my sick bed, and I'm not really into it, but there is no way I'm going to draw something else so it will have to do.

Pizza Punks Flyer

I did this flyer a while ago for the Santa Rosa Pizza Punks, but found out afterwards that another band had been added and the location changed.  I was gonna change it (I don't use computers or anything, I just draw it all by hand old-school like), but it was just too much of a pain in the butt and I really didn't have enough time, but I don't think I've actually told them that yet.  Either way, even though it's inaccurate I still like it.  Plus, I love Nervosas.

Sacramento Ladyfest

Chavez (from the amazing band Butch vs. Femme) is helping organize the Sacramento Ladyfest, and asked me to do a shirt design for it, but it was super last minute so I don't know if they'll actually use these or not.  Either way, since I'm done with Dreams of Donuts I have plenty of time to work on other projects, in addition to finishing ones I've postponed/forgot about.

This last one isn't scanned right, the person at the photocopy place messed it up so the whole left side is left out, but I really don't feel like going back there tonight so I'll get it rescanned tomorrow.

Dreams of Donuts #22

I thought that it was going to take me a couple more weeks to finish this issue, but then yesterday I went on a drawing marathon, cut out the majority of the text I had left over, and then stayed at kinko's til 11pm and then next thing I knew, I was done!  Ordering info at the top, here's some crappy pictures.

My schedual has been totally out of whack, since I currently have two jobs and have been lucky enough to have two of my best friends grace me with their presence here in Oakland, but things are almost back to normal.  I still have a way to go with this issue, but at least I can actually see completion from here.

I made a mixtape for someone from Brazil, who ordered zines from me a while ago and I haven't mailed yet (but will this week) cuz of brokeness and busy-ness.  P.S. I will never understand why I love kewpie's so much.

Dreams of Donuts #22

Once I finish this zine I'm gonna take a
week off from all art projects and lay in
bed watching netflix while eating vegan junk food.

Maximum Rock n Roll, Etc.

Dreams of Donuts #21 got a review in the June 2015 issue of MRR, and, well, I'll just type it out...
Dreams of Donuts #21 : I'm in a perzine avalanche this month and damn, the Dear Diary issue isn't as awesome as this zine usually is, but it's still charming.  I just didn't get into it like I usually do.  This comic has rad and intricate illustrations I've come to love, but this issue is surprisingly hopeless and full of sad subject matter, or mundane.  Not that a bummer fest is bad necessarily, and it is tempered with some highs, there are just more lows and a lot of heartbreak.  Unrelated strings of thought that can only come from diary entries, which, no matter what anyone says, I really think are just for the person and nobody else.
Ouch!!!  Actually, it's not that bad, and I pretty much agree with everything Julia Booze said.  This issue is also the first time I work with MRR as a demo reviewer, which is a lot harder then I thought it would be!  Here's one of my reviews!
Putrid Cause - "Super Happy Fun Time
Friends" - If the band BUCKETFLUSH
were potheads instead of alcoholics, you would
have PUTRID CAUSE.  Actually, why haven't
they toured together or done a split yet?
Either way, punk as hell.  This is a band I could
really see at Libertatia with a circle pit
up front kicking up hella dust.  If that is
your thing, this tape is for you, but prepare
for a lot of empty tape after three or
four songs on each side.  Next time maybe
they could order shorter tapes?  (Added
bonus, each tape comes with a rolling paper!)
I think I'm doing okay so far.  Also, I'm still working on Dreams of Donuts #22.  Probably about half way done at this point.

Flyer

Is it spelt flyer or flier?
This show is gonna be really good, plus it's our friend Susie Q's birthday party!  The Healers are my dear friends and coincidently an amazing band, plus Ancient Wing is back together and they RULE!  Here's what the original looks like:
(Notice I gave the Crude Studs a shout-out via the button on the sweater?)

Zine Review: Dreams of Donuts 19

Zine Review: Dreams of Donuts

Zine Review: Dreams of Donuts

ZINES_Dream-of-Donuts

Comic, Heather Wreckage, Issue 19, all4choice@hotmail.com, $2

Sometimes, writers of autobiographical comics fall prey to the urge to show themselves in the best light, glamorize details of their lives to make them seem more interesting than they are, or to avoid uncomfortable truths because that’s, you know, challenging. None of these are true of Heather Wreckage’s most excellent new instalment of Dreams of Donuts, and I for one am happy that she is still producing this photocopied gem.
I remember trading zines with Heather years ago and it’s great to see how her zine and its unique imagery — mermaids, donuts, and tacos — have developed and evolved. Topics include thoughtful ruminations on dating, local history, and reflections on the music scene.
Like fellow west coast comic zinesters Carrie McNinch and Nicole Georges, Heather is able to mine the material of her own life in such a way that even a benign event like going to a show or a bummer event like a breakup can be an opportunity to learn something. Earnest, sincere, made for punx – this is definitely worth the two bucks. (Chris Landry)

Crude Studs Tour

I am so lucky and honored to get to go on tour with the Crude Studs tomorrow!  I've always wanted to go on tour with a band, since it's like, totally punk brah, but I don't drive so I never get invited. Til now!  I'm so glad I have such tight friends; see ya soon SoCal!
